The World's largest producer of anti-retroviral drugs Hetero Drugs Limited is all set to produce the generic version of Remdesivir, the drug that is expected to be the game-changer in treating the ongoing pandemic.

In the first phase, the drug maker will be sending a lot that consists of 20,000 vials to five states in India including Maharashtra and National Capital Delhi.

Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad of Telangana will be receiving the first consignment of the drug for the emergency medical treatment of patients.

Though the name of the drug is Remdesivir, it will be marketed in the country under the name of COVIFOR. In a span of three to four weeks, the firm is expected to manufacture one lakh vials.

The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company will send the next consignment to other cities- Kolkata, Indore, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna, Bhubaneshwar, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Kochi, Trivandrum, and Goa.

Managing Director of Hetero Group of Companies, Vamsi Krishna Bandi said that the magic drug will be made available only via hospitals and government and retail will not be entertained in this regard.

Patients suffering from, liver disease, kidney failure, children, and pregnant or lactating women will not be given this drug as the drug shows a negative impact on them.
