Centre Sends Pulses During Lockdown, States Distribute Only 27 Per Cent Of It

Amid lot of hullabaloo about the state governments complaining about non supply of pulses and food grains by the Centre and about the Central Government not just doing enough, here comes the harsh truth. The Centre has already provided the stocks to the State Government, but at least four states have not not yet started distributing pulses.

According to food and consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan, UP, Delhi, Manipur and Puducherry have not even started the distribution of one kg pulses to identified poor families during the Covid 19 lockdown. Across the country, only Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Goa have distributed pulses for all the three months. Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Dadra Nagar Haveli have distributed for two months. All others have either distributed one month quota or not even that. The Centre says that it has distributed 93 per cent of the pulses quota, the state governments have distributed only 27 per cent of it and the remainder is with the state governments. Of the 1,82 lakh tonnes given by the Centre, only 54000 lakh tonnes were distributed.

The worst part of the whole episode is that distribution of the pulses to the selected households is state government's duty and instead of distributing the pulses promptly, the state governments are doing nothing. The states should act fast, says minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
