Usually, Senior Citizens would go on pilgrimage, prefer vacations & spend time with their children & grandchildren during the retirement phase. But, Gangadhara Tilak Katnam believed he could do something for the well-being of the people instead of relaxing at home.

Gangadhara Tilak, who retired in 2008, joined as consultant in a software agency in 2010. On his first day to office, He felt bad about himself after splashing mud water on school kids when his car fell into a pathole. Thereafter, He witnessed few more accidents happen but the one near Langer House in Old City left a huge impact on him. He thought that accident wouldn't have happened & a life could have been saved had if somebody filled the pothole after the previous mishap. Since then, He kept repairing patholes on his way to office, during lunch break & while returning to home using his pension. Later, He quit his job to serve the society full time. Inspired by his Father's determination, Tilak's Son created a website and facebook pace with the name 'Shramadaan' which motivating people to repair patholes.

In the first two years, Gangadhara Tilak spent Rs 25,000 per month for pothole repairs. Since 2012, GHMC began offering him the necessary material for road works and his personal spending has come down to Rs 15,000 per month. He claims to have noticed the change in the mindset of people in the recent years.
