Kapu Community Is Leaderless Now
X
What is the future of the Kapu agitation in Andhra Pradesh? This question is being repeatedly raised ever since Kapu patriarch Mudragada Padmanabham announced that he was withdrawing from the leadership of the agitation. Mudragada became synonymous with the Kapu reservations agitation and played a key role in it. However, in view of strong differences with some of the members of the Kapu Nadu, he came out.

Since then, the organization is suffering from a leadership crisis. The other members of the Kapu Nadu neither have the persona nor the political sagacity of Mudragada. Hence they are all unknown commodities and are thus unable to mobilize the people for agitations. Also, the demand for BC status to Kapus has become considerably weaker ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought EWS reservations. This decision has partially addressed the needs of the Kapus.

Sources say that former minister and Kapu leader for over 60 years, Harirama Jogaiah has expressed willingness to lead the Kapus. He has even formed a Kapu Sankshema Sena organization. However, he is unable to capture the imagination of the community. As a result, the Kapus are currently leaderless and rudderless. They are unable to trust the current leades and are unable to bring back Mudragada from his retirement. The end result? The Kapu agitation is petering out.
