Actor Kamal Haasan long back tried to release his film 'Viswaroopam' on the day of the Theatrical release through the DTH services. At that time all the producers and Theater owners have rejected his proposition outright due to Theater monopoly in TamilNadu but now with Corona pandemic lockdown, the producers are now realizing the prophecy of Kamal Haasan who way back expected the doom of Theaters!
After 8 years, the movie producers are literally trying to sell their movies to OTT platforms that would stream the movie. With this there will be no need of theatrical release in this Corona lockdown days. The OTT platforms have become a boon for all the small movie producers who find it difficult to get Theaters for their films.
The film producers are seriously planing to go on the idea of Kamal Haasan and chalking out plans to get the 'pay per view' plans for the upcoming movies that are all set for release. After Pay per view on DTH services, the movie can be sold to OTT platforms and thus recover the costs of the movie in this lockdown time and until the Theaters open.
The direct release in OTT is already a trend in Bollywood. Most of the films made on a decent budget have been released on Netflix already. The movies include Ghoul, Guilty and Drive to name a few because the theatre rentals and distributor pressures are high in Bollywood. With the idea of directly selling to Netflix good content driven films are finding the space in movie lovers hearts!
