Why Did Yeddiyurappa Land In Jeeyars Ashram?

Despite winning a trust vote in the Assembly, Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa appears to be unsure about the continuance of his government beyond the honeymoon period of six months. Hence, he is doing rounds of various temples to ward off 'evil' forces. Yeddiyurappa, a Lingayat, is known to make rounds of all important Lingayath mutts in Karnataka, also visits Raghavendra mutt in Mantralayam. But, even the Mantralayam has a strong Kannada connect.

But, what is his connect with Tridandi Sree Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamy? After all Sri Vaishnava sect is not as powerful in Karnataka and the Swamy does not have many followers in Karnataka. On Friday, the Karnataka CM has stayed in the ashram in Muchintal village near Shadnagar overnight and performed some special poojas at the Kodandarama Swamy temple under the supervision of Jeeyar Swamy. Interestingly, Yeddiyurappa visited the ashram exactly a week after he took over as the CM.

Yeddiyurappa has changed the spelling of his name to ward off bad omens. Is this ritual too meant to ensure that he completes his term without any hitches? Yeddiyurappa is the only CM in Modi's BJP who is older than the party's cut-off age of 75 years.
