The violent standoff between Indian and Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley of Ladakh resulted in 20 Indian Army soldiers martyred reportedly. This standoff is the most serious situation between the nations in five decades.

While there is no official confirmation, some Indian Army sources maintained that 43 Chinese soldiers were killed or seriously injured by the Indian troops, while the statement issued by the Army did not talk about this.

The Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) in its statement said that both the troops suffered fatalities in the fierce standoff between the troops at the border along the disputed line.

The violent standoff between the two sides happened on the night of June 15th at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh when the Chinese army tried to enter the Indian territory.

The ministry of external affairs' spokesperson Anurag Srivastava spoke about the standoff and found fault with the Chinese troops for trying to enter Indian territory days after Army chiefs of both the sides holding talks to resolve the border disputes.

In the wake of the tense situation escalating at the border, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held review meetings at his residence and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief General MM Naravane were also present at the review meeting.
