Supreme Court on March 20th banned immediate filing of criminal cases and arrests under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. The Apex Court made it clear citizens can be booked under the Act only after a DSP-range Officer confirms that the allegations are true. Even an order has been passed not to prosecute Public Servants without the consent of the appointing authority.
Dalits across the country objected to the new conditions for implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Act. A call for Bharat Bandh has been given by the Dalit Organizations. Violent incidents were reported across the nation during the Bharat Bandh on April 2nd and three people succumbed to death.

He complained SC Order hurts the spirit of SC/ST Atrocities Act and leads to insecurity among the Dalits. 'CM Chandrababu says nobody wishes to be born as Dalit. AP Minister Adinarayana Reddy insulted Dalits by saying they don't maintain hygiene. It reflects the feudal ideology of the present AP rulers. Imagine if rulers speak in such manner, what's the situation at the grassroots level. Indian Constitution was scripted by Ambedkar wishing to see casteless society,' he reminded.
