External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj informed Rajya Sabha that she will express India's concerns over the changing H-1B Visa norms with US during the 2+2 dialogue scheduled to happen on September 6th this year in New Delhi. 'We are already raising the issue formally at various fora. We are speaking on it with the White House, with state administration as well as with Congressmen. We will raise it humbly at the 2+2 dialogue on September 6 in New Delhi,' she said.

According to Sushma Swaraj, No major changes were made to H-1B Visa Policy so far. However, Indian Government takes note of the prevailing sentiment in the US regarding the tougher visa norms. Number of H-1B Visas has actually increased from 1.08 lakh in 2014 to 1.29 lakh in 2018.

Sushma Swaraj, however, feels US might cut down the number of H-1B Visas with stringent norms. She conveyed Indian Government has been doing its best to stop such things from happening.

External Affairs Minister will raise the issue with her US Counterpart Rex Tillerson. She informed Union Finance Minister and Commerce Minister had already expressed their concerns to US Trade and Commerce Secretary.

Since February 2018, The Hiring Company was asked to prove its H-1B Employee at a third-party worksite has a specific and non-qualifying speculative assignments in speciality occupation.
