Kofi Annan, Former United National Secretary General, passed away on Saturday due to illness at the age of 80. Ghana which happens to be his home nation declared a week of national mourning.

For a period of two terms from 1997 to 2006, Kofi Annan served as United National Secretary General. Later, He worked as UN Special Envoy for Syria and strived hard to find a solution for the unrest.

In the statement issued by his Foundation, Kofi Annan was described as 'Global Statesman' for fighting throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world.

In 2001, Kofi Annan was conferred with Nobel Peace Prize for the service he has done to the mankind. HIV Pandemic and Iraq War are the two big challenges during his tenure as UN Chief.

On his 80th birthday, Kofi Annan claimed he is a stubborn optimist…born as optimist and dies as optimist.

After the end of his UN stint, Kofi Annan founded the Kofi Annan Foundation in 2007 for contributing to the World. He used to stay in Geneva, Switzerland. Hats Off To The Great Personality!
