Some jokes offend people more than one thinks. We cannot help at times to feel sorry for ourselves as we were completely ignorant to such an important cultural thing.

Karan Johar had to learn this a big way too. He normally goes around doing fashion policing by making comments on people.

He sometimes gets insensitive about them too. He did comment about a cap wore by Kirron Kher, the BJP MP from Chandigarh. She was gifted an Assamese topi and when she wore at India's Got Talent which she is judging, Karan Johar her co-judge made fun of it.

A person from Assam state called about the insensitivity of the filmmaker. He tweeted,

"Dear @karanjohar the Japi and Gamusa are signs of respect and love. When someone gifts you one, you don't make fun of it, even if it does not go with fashion. Your video hurt the emotions of #Assamese people. Just informing, in case you didn't know it already.

@KirronKherBJP"

Karan Johar immediately took down the video on Instagram and issued this apology.

"You are absolutely right and I would like to apologise if I have hurt any sentiments.....it was purely unintentional and came from a place of no knowledge which is absolutely no excuse....am extremely sensitive to the different cultures of our land and I am very sorry.... "

We have to say celebrities should know when they are making comments like these about certain things.
