This Six-Time MLA Has No Place In Mahabubnagar Politics

Till a few years ago, he was the unquestioned king of Mahbubnagar and had won the elections for six consecutive terms from Nagarkurnool. But today, he is cutting a sorry figure in the very district where his word was once the law.

Nagam Janardhan Reddy was one of the strongest voices in Telangana. He played a key role in Telangana agitation and withstood the tsunami of Telangana agitation. But, now, he is a shadow of his former self. Frequent party hopping has left him considerably weakened. From TDP, he jumped into the BJP. But, he found himself like a fish out of water in the BJP. He contested in 2014 elections. He contested for the Lok Sabha.

Many feel that this was a costly mistake as he would have had a facile win hand he contested from Nagarkurnool assembly instead of Lok Sabha. In 2018 elections, he left the BJP and joined the Congress. This time, he contested from Nagarkurnool assembly seat but lot badly to the TRS.

Failing health, advancing age are preventing him from being the swashbuckling MLA that he used to be. His elder son's untimely death also appears to have shattered him. As a result, politicians half his age are now ruling the roost in Mahabubnagar while he is struggling to retain the toehold.
