How BJP Is Helping Print Media During Lockdown?

The BJP may have its issues and complaints with the media, but it has come to the rescue of the print media, whose chips are down now due to the Corona lockdown. The media, especially the print media, is passing through tough times due to the non-availability of newsprint, near total absence of advertisements and problems of distribution. The paper boys are not being allowed to distribute papers due to corona scare. As a result, the print media is functioning with lesser staff and are bringing out the paper with fewer pages.

To bail out the beleaguered print media, the BJP government in Gujarat has decided to pay up all the arrears of the advertisement bills to the print media houses. The government will clear the bills till April 2020, assured Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. He said that the media has a key role to play in the dissemination of correct information to the people during the times of Corona and lauded them for serving the people despite the lockdown constraints. This news comes amid reports that the print media has suffered a loss of Rs 4500 crore in April alone.

The print media organisations want all the state governments to follow the example set by Gujarat and ensure that all the pending advertisement bills in various other states are cleared at the earliest.
