In North India, Diwali is a big festival as it involves 7 days of festivities before and after main day. In Tamil Nadu, as they believe New Moon day to be more auspicious, Diwali is grandly celebrated than Dussehra.

But in Telugu states, Dussehra is bigger festival and even a big season for films. Both in North India and Tamil Nadu, Diwali is such time. We have been witnessing big Khan films in Hindi and Ajith or Vijay films releasing on Diwali in both markets from past 20 years.

Before them, in Tamil Rajni and Kamal films used to fight it out during Diwali time. For Telugu films, Diwali is the end of a lucrative holiday season and hence, very rarely any big movies that did not get a slot in Dussehra used to release.

This time, Piglet film Adhugo is releasing against Sarkar and Thugs of Hindosthan. Sarkar is releasing in more theatres than any Vijay film as it is directed by AR Murugadoss and coming after Vijay's more successful films.

Thugs of Hindosthan has Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan for the first time coming together. Telugu audience are also warming up to the big movies of other languages than just Telugu movies.

So, it will be interesting to see if Adhugo can survive between two heavy weights. Ravi Babu, the director hasn't been so consistent in his career and that could be a problem for the film.
