A Yellow Media Plan Gone Completely Awry
X
The yellow media had egg all over its face when it peddled a patently false story about automobile major Kia Cars shifting its base to Chennai from AP. The story, as it was found later, was patently false and had no base. The way a prestigious news agency like Reuters promoted the story and the way the so called 'yellow media' lapped it up like there's no tomorrow only showed how powerful the misinformation machinery is. For a few hours , this fake news had a field day what with yellow media breaking from the non-dot programmes to announce breaking news.

Interestingly, both the AP Government and the Kia Cars had refuted the news and said there was no move to shift the Rs 1.1 billion unit to Chinnai. Yet, for hours, the news was peddled and self-styled experts were roped into perorate on this. Interestingly, even the Reuters story had quoted the management as saying that the unit was not being shifted. Quite curiously, soon after the fake report was put out, the Twitter account of Aditya Karla, the lead writer of the story, was restricted. Yet, the misinformation was spread like wild fire by pro-TDP media. Behind all this, a PR wizard close to the TDP establishment, is said to have been involved.

By late evening, the whole drama was unravelled and the Opposition began looking for some face-saver. Both the Kia Motors and the YSRCP government categorically refuted the story. To add insult to the TDP injury, the Tamil Nadu government too has said that there was no proposal whatsoever of Kia Motors shifting to Tamil Nadu. Thus ended a monumentally failed attempt to defame the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
