US Mid-Term Polls Crucial For H-1B Holders

The fate of Indians who aspires for the Green Card depends on the US mid-term polls scheduled to happen next week. In September 2018, Mike Coffman (a Republican from Colorado) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (a Democrat from Illinois) introduced the 'Immigration Innovation Act of 2018'. Elections to the 435 seats of the US House of Representatives on November 6th could have an impact on this Bill for sure.
All the Bills which were pending in the US House of Representatives and Senate will have to be reintroduced post the Elections if at least one of the sponsors of them gets re-elected. Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat, is fighting this election against Indian-American Jitendra Diganvker who was nominated by the Republican Party.
Over 1.5 million H-1B holders from India are waiting in the long queues for US Green Card. Average wait time is estimated to be not less than 15 years.
The Coffman-Krishnamoorthi Bill:
i) Enabling of unused Visas from previous years
ii) Exempt spouses & Children of employment-based Green Card holders from Caps
iii) Create new Green Card categories to allow US employers to sponsor university-educated foreign professionals through a separate path from H-1B Visas, so as to cut down long wait for Green Cards
iv) Grace period to allow H-1B visa holders to change jobs without their losing legal status to permit mobility
