The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YCP implemented many big decisions including launching the Volunteers system. The ruling party sees them as the bridge between the govt and the beneficiaries as they take the benefits of the schemes to their doorstep. On many occasions, YCP leaders termed Volunteers as Jagan’s army.

However, the Volunteers system became a hot topic in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the elections. The opposition parties alleged that Volunteers might work for the ruling party and the election commission kept Volunteers away from the election duties.

The sensation around the Volunteers did not stop even after their resignations. Not happy with the controversy around them, Volunteers went for mass resignations. However, the issue did not stop even there as a few knocked on the doors of the Court seeking directives to stop the resignations.

When the issue reached the Court, the Election Commission made some key comments. Counsel who represented the EC told the court that so far 62,571 Volunteers filed the resignations and they cannot give directives to not approve the resignations.

Having said that, the Counsel said that they would consider the resigned volunteers as private people. After hearing the arguments, the High Court adjourned the next hearing to two weeks later.

It is known that a petition was filed in the High Court seeking directives to not accept the resignations of the Volunteers as they might work for the ruling YSRCP for the elections. The sensational petition was filed by BCYP Leader Bode Ramachandra Yadav. But the EC said that such directives cannot be given.
