Are voices rising against Chalapathi Rao because he is harmless?

From past three days, social media has been abuzz with the derogatory comments made by senior actor Chalapathi Rao against women at audio function of Rarandoyi Veduka Chuddam starring Naga Chaitanya and Rakul Preet Singh. The movie is produced by Akkineni Nagarjuna and directed by Kalyan Krishna.
The senior actor had been trolled and warned at a huge level by many lady right activists to take back his comments and ask for apology. Even actors Naga Chaitanya and Rakul Preet were asked to explain themselves regarding them laughing out loud at the function for his comments.
Right from actor Ram to many other actors, came out against his comments and even MAA, Movie Artists Association issued a warning to the senior actor to not make any derogatory comments against women. The actor rendered an 'apology' to women trying to say, he never meant to derogate anyone as the channels are trying to present him as a villain.
Well, even the entire team came out apologizing for the comments after a day, when the issue became too hot to handle. Now many are wondering where have all these voices gone when bigwigs made such comments? Not many reacted when Senior Hero and MLA except for few lady rights activist organizations and Roja in the assembly. Are these voices are prominently heard now, because Chalapathi Rao is harmless? And doesn't hold any key position in Association and politics?
