Allu Arjun hardly faced any setbacks professionally in the past few years. This time, He teamed up with Harish Shankar & Dil Raju to deliver commercial potboiler 'DJ - Duvvada Jagannadham'. Has the combination worked?

Synopsis:

Duvvada Jagannadham alias DJ (Allu Arjun) is a brahmin youth who can't tolerate injustice since childhood. Apart from taking care of catering business, He fights against anti-social elements with the help of a Top Cop (Murali Sharma). Just when DJ was executing his plans in disguise, A huge conspiracy gets exposed and someone close to him pays the price for it. DJ steps in to end the atrocities of Royyala Naidu (Rao Ramesh) who is behind the scam. However, Royyala Naidu targets DJ's Family upon knowing about his mission. How did DJ accomplish the tough task forms rest of the tale!

Performances:

Allu Arjun's Performance as Brahmin Youth is so-so when compared to either Chiru's 'Mugguru Monagallu' or NTR's 'Adhurs'. Looks-wise, Bunny appears amazing in both the roles. He is exceptional in Dances & Fights.

Pooja Hegde's Glamour has been elevated quite well. Youth will go crazy watching her sexy avatar. She, however, got very little scope for performance.

Rao Ramesh entertains with his dialogue delivery, mannerisms and body language. But, It must be said that he didn't appear apt for the lead villain role. Murali Sharma is alright. Vennela Kishore was under-utilized. Posani, Tanikella and Chandramohan played their characters as per requirement.

Pros:

Allu Arjun

Pooja Hegde's Glamour

Dialogues

Cons:

Second Half

Routine & Predictable

Run Time

Technicalities:

Devi Sri Prasad offered a chartbuster album which could attract Youth and Mass Audience. Camera Work by Ayananka Bose is quite impressive. Production Values of Sri Venkateswara Creations are grand. Routine Story-Screenplay proved costly for 'DJ'. Harish Shankar yet again failed to utilize the golden opportunity he received after a success like 'Gabbar Singh'. The only saving grace is the Dialogues penned by him. Overall, 'DJ' lacked entertainment one expects from a crazy combo.

Analysis:

'DJ' Posters & Promos gave an impression that it might be a paisa-vasool entertainer though the Story & Screenplay appear routine. Sadly, The entertainment quotient isn't up to the mark. Makers might have thought of overcoming the short-comings with Allu Arjun's Brahmin role. Sadly, This character didn't live up to the expectations and hardly creates a lasting impression. Even the Love Track between the Lead Pair doesn't appear promising.

While the First Half of 'DJ' is decent, Second Half is quite boring to say the least. Weaving a story around Agri-Gold Scam might make the subject appear contemporary. Other than that there is no freshness in this movie.

Childhood Scenes of Allu Arjun look artificial. Scenes of Protagonist taking law into his hands in the presence of a Sincere Cop to elevate heroism appeared unconvincing. Pooja Hegde's high glamour dose will be thoroughly enjoyed. Rao Ramesh playing Main Antagonist didn't work in favour of the movie. Even character graph wasn't maintained well.

Most disappointing aspect is the Climax. Yes, Claims of Harish Shankar in the promotional interviews has come true. Audience didn't expect such a surprising Climax, which is over-the-top, at all. Having a Run Time of more than 2-and-a-half Hours is another minus. Post the screening, Audience express the doubt how did Bunny who is very choosey picked up such a subject.

Bottom Line: DJ - What Message do you wish to convey with a Routine Cinema?
