Have Tragic Climaxes Become a Trend?

Nani never shied away from a tragic climax. Jersey is not his first film to have such a climax. In fact, ending the story with a tragedy is nothing new for Telugu Cinema.

Acceptance of such a negative ending has been. ANR is the only hero who could gladly boast of being King of Tragedy and Romance at the same time, who delivered hits with such sacrificing lead hero roles.

His most iconic films like Anarkali, Premabhikshekam, Batasari, Laila-Majnu, Pelli Kanuka, Manase Mandiram, Dr. Chakravarthy, Devadasu have him such roles. Many tried to do such films but only very few could work.

Krishna in some movies could go for a heroic death but the characters had to be as strong as Alluri Seetharamaraju and the one in Eenadu. Sobhan Babu was seen as a glamour king and NTR had mixed bag reception, forcing him to stick to those films where his character triumphs.

In recent memory, Nagarjuna tried such a tragic ending with the film Antham, but it did not succeed at the box office, it has a cult following, today.

Nani did try such a tragedy film with Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu and it became a hit. Jersey too is on the verge of becoming a Superhit.

Hence, Allu Arjun team is happy to retain a sad ending for ICON, movie it seems. Venu Sriram proposed a love story with a character that is as strong as Vijay Devarakonda's Arjun Reddy, it seems. Well, as Dil Raju is producing the film, the movie will be commercially satisfying too.
