Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was born to Mallareddy and Seethamma, a Polygar Family, in Rupanagudi Village in Uyyalawada Mandal, Kurnool District. Opposing the Ryotwari System introduced by the British East India Company, He revolted in support of the farmers who suffered because of the high taxation and those who lost their lands. A bounty of 10,000 dinars was announced on his head. Reddy led the movement against the British Rule with an army of 5,000 people. Five years after the revolt begun, Britishers captured him at the Jagannathaswamy Temple in Giddalur. He was one of the 112 Rebels who were convicted on charges of dacoity and murders.
On February 1847, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was executed in the presence of more than 2,000 people who maintained pin-drop silence. British placed his head on the fort wall for 30 years, until 1877. That shows how much Reddy has terrified them!
Renati Surya Chandrula Smaraka Samithi was established in memory of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy after his execution. Renati Surya Chandrulu means Reddy is the Sun and Moon of Renadu.
Sepoy Mutiny which was dubbed as the First War for Indian Independence happened in 1857. Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy was executed by the Britishers 10 years before that movement.
