Rajasimha earned good recognition for the dialogues he penned for Allu Arjun's Gona Ganna Reddy character in historical flick 'Rudramadevi'. He now tests his luck by wielding the megaphone for 'Okka Ammayi Thappa'. Sundeep Kishan and Rajasimha had faced many hardships to find a Producer for the subject. Finally, Their search ended with Anji Reddy. Factors like Interesting Title & Nithya Menon playing female lead fetched good buzz for the movie. At last, 'Okka Ammayi Thappa' seeks audience verdict Today.

Synopsis:

Krishna Vachan (Sundeep Kishan) conveys to Mango (Nithya Menon) that he loves her during his schooling days. After several years, He accidentally meets her on a flyover following a traffic jam. They began liking each other after a point, even though their second innings begins with a petty fight. Anwar (Ravi Kishan) plans a bomb blast by blocking the traffic with an accident on a flyover. However, His plot fails and he now tries to execute the operation using Krishna Vachan. Why was Anwar so particular that Krishna Vachan is the right person for successfully operating the bomb blast & How does the Protagonist overcome this problem forms the rest of the tale!

Performances:

Sundeep Kishan carries the whole film on his shoulders and audience will remember his performance even after stepping out of the theatres. At times, He appeared to be over-confident but that's not a big issue and does particularly well in the Climax block.

Unfortunately, Nithya Menon's role doesn't have much significance in the story. Still, She manages to leave a mark of her own.

Ravi Kishan goes overboard in few scenes. Instead of scaring the viewers, He tickles their funny bone. None of the Comedians succeeded in keeping the audience in splits. Pruthvi's comedy is passable but others test patience.

Pros:

Sundeep Kishan

Cinematography

Last 20 Minutes

Cons:

Comedy Tracks

Screenplay

Direction

Technicalities:

Mickey J Meyer's Music is decent. None of Songs were hummable but Background Score is good. Camera Work by Chota K Naidu is top notch. His visuals were so rich and enough care was taken to make sure audience does't feel monotony. Production Values look pretty good inspite of budget constraint. Director Rajasimha choose a novel point but faltered in execution. Lack of taut screenplay spoiled the momentum required for films like 'Okka Ammayi Thappa'. Some of his one-liners were impressive. Overall, He receives just pass marks for his directorial debut.

Analysis:

Rajasimha penned the story of 'Okka Ammayi Thappa' 7-8 years ago. None of the Producers dared to produce the movie as the cost of production is beyond Sundeep Kishan's market. 80 percent of the scenes should be shot in a single location, a flyover. A massive set has to be erected for it and extensive CG Work is required. Finally, Producer Anji Reddy came forward to invest after Sundeep Kishan promised to sacrifice his remuneration if the film bites the dust.

Films like 'Okka Ammayi Thappa' are like a double-edged sword. Debutante Filmmakers will receive huge mileage if they hit the right chord with the audience, else have to deal with Box Office failure & Criticism. Rajasimha deserves a pat on his back for his novel storyline. One gets the feeling that he might have taking inspiration from Bollywood flick 'A Wednesday' to pen this story. But here, Villain gives directions to Hero on what to be done.

Inspite of having few edge-of-the-seat thrilling scenes, 'Okka Ammayi Thappa' fails to keep the viewers engaged just because of poor Screenplay. The mind game between Hero-Villain isn't something we haven't seen before. Unnecessary Comedy Tracks deviate the audience from the actual story.

Logic goes for a toss at times! Particularly, Traffic Jam on a flyover from morning to evening and villain operating his mission using Hero who is on the flyover were far from reality. The actual story begins from Interval and proceedings get interesting after villain starts dictating terms to hero. Media Updates, in between key scenes, play the spoilsport. Almost all the comedy blocks look silly. Even Tanikella's speech is too dramatic. Rajasimha designed a thriller subject as a time-pass fare and also tried to convey a message. Although the final twist involving villain looks unconvincing, Last 20 Minutes and the manner in which the film ends were executed well.

Bottom Line: Not Engaging Enough!
