Savitri was a popular film actress, playback singer, dancer, director and producer. She was a multi-talented personality who appeared mainly in Telugu and Tamil language films but was also famous in Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi language films. She was honoured among "women in cinema" at the 30th International Film Festival of India and is a huge inspiration for the latest generation. To celebrate her life and pay a tribute for the achievements she recorded, director Nag Ashwin teamed up with Vyjayanthi movies and made a biopic on her with the title Mahanati. Keerthy Suresh played Savitri on the screen. The film has become a big hit and was also praised at the recent international film festival held at Melbourne.

The film Mahanati depicted the journey of Savitri in movies and also showcased her downfall. The film also revealed the relationship between Savitri and Gemini Ganesan. Interestingly, the director portrayed Savitri's life in a way that many negative aspects were ignored. Though it was an obvious thing, some latest developments proved that the film ignored some dark secrets of the actress' life.

Senior journalist Pasupuleti penned a book on the actress life where he mentioned about the last phase of Savitri's career and life detailedly. Pasupuleti wrote that Savitri was a stubborn woman and added that he did not care anyone in life which has become a reason for all her near and dear ones not taking care of properly during her last days. Going by what the senior journalist mentioned, Nag Ashwin ignored a lot of key aspects of her final days.

As a matter of fact, the makers of Mahanati wantedly avoided the controversies on the advice of Savitri's daughter Chamundeshwari who played the key role in bringing the actress life on the screen.
