SJ Surya went to Chennai for the first time when he was studying Intermediate First Year to fulfill his dream of becoming a Hero by meeting Shivaji Ganesan. He faced many hardship after reaching Chennai and finally became a Junior Artiste. 'I had starved due to lack of food for several days. Don't even have money to pay house rent. I joined as server in a hotel to feed myself,' he said.
Later, Suryah got an opportunity to work as Assistant Director for Ajith's 'Aasai'. That's when Ajith saw Suryah who wore torn shirt and chappals working so hard. It's then he decided to give him a chance after he establishes himself as hero in the Industry.
Ajith signed Suryah's 'Vaali' but the shoot was halted due to financial issues after 10 days. Somehow, The film was completed and went on to become a blockbuster. 'I wouldn't have been here without Ajith. After 'Vaali', He gifted a car to Me. I could never forget it!' he informs.
Then, Pawan Kalyan signed 'Kushi' though the Tamil version was just average. This movie fetched the super stardom for Powerstar. 'Pawan is a wonderful human being. His Fans are more like Followers. Good character and straight forwardness are the reasons behind it,' says the Filmmaker-turned-Actor.
Suryah feels Fans couldn't accept Mahesh Babu in 'Nani' after a blockbuster like 'Okkadu'. He invested all of his hard-earned money in this project and incurred losses. Suryah says Mahesh is a Director's Actor.
AR Murugadoss offered the role of Bhairava to Suryah in 'Spyder'. 'I waited for such a role for many years. It gave me immense satisfaction as an Actor and people have appreciated my performance very much,' he told.
