One Rrule For Advani, Another For Yeddiyurappa

In the BJP, are rules made only to be broken? The party talks about political morality and values. But, the party violates them at will and throws these rules to wind at the first available challenge. This tendency has grown after the party came to power this time.

The way the MLAs from the rival parties are being lured to join the BJP or the way the parties are being forced to merge with the BJP is unprecedented. The constitutional provisios are being flouted at will. Even the seniors in the party are ruing the fall of moral values in the party.

The latest rule to be flouted is the 75-year age bar set for the party leaders to enjoy government positions. The BJP has retired all politicians who are close to 75 years and some of them have been made governors. The list includes biggies like LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and even Najma Heptullah. In fact, Advani is party's founding member and had played a stellar role in the party’s growth. Not only he was denied a party ticket, he was insulted too. He was disrespected on the stage and in full public view. But interestingly, the same rule has been given a go by when it came to Yeddiyurappa in Karnataka.

Yeddiyurappa has been announced as the party's chief ministerial candidate even before the elections and has now been made the Chief Minister despite the fact that he is past 78 years. What more? Yeddiyurappa is hard of hearing and keeps fairly flail health. Compared to him, Advani keeps better health and is quite active in daily life. But, Advani has been forcibly retired, while Yeddiyurapa has been made CM.
