In a shocking development, India reported the highest surge of fresh cases of the pandemic with 15,986 which takes the toll of the total cases to 4,56,183 in the country.

Fatalities too recorded the highest surge with 465 and the total casualties in connection with the deadly virus rose to 14,476.

With 10,500 fresh recoveries reported in the past 24 hours, the total recoveries stood at 2,58,684. This translates to 56.70% of the recovery rate. The active cases stood at 1,83,022.

Coming to the total infections, Maharashtra has 1,39,010 cases, followed by National Capital Delhi(66,602), Tamil Nadu(64,603) and looking at the states with more fatalities, Maharashtra(6,531), Delhi(2,301) and Gujarat(1,710) bagged the top spots.

Telangana currently has 8,674 infections with 872 fresh cases reported on Tuesday which marks the highest single-day cases so far. To date, 217 people succumbed to the fatal virus.

Fellow Telugu State Andhra Pradesh reported 407 cases on Tuesday and the total infections in the state rose to 9,834. So far, 119 people lost their lives to the disease.
