Chennai Police Department has rejected the permission for singer Chinamyi to hold a protest against recent verdict given by the Supreme Court to Cheif Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi in a sexual harassment case. The cops told Chinmayi that any protest regarding this case will be a disregard towards the judiciary.
If we get into the story, a former employee of Ranjan filed a complaint on him stating that he sexually abused her. But the Supreme Court has given a clean chit to Ranjan in the case. Many protests were held in cities like Delhi, Chennai and Mysuru condemning the verdict given by the Supreme Court.
Chinmayi, who is the face of Tamil Nadu's MeToo movement also wanted to conduct a peaceful protest near Valluvar Kottam, in Chennai. But the police rejected to permit her to hold the protest citing law and order issues. Condemning their act, Chinamyi wrote few sarcastic tweets on social media.
