In a significant move, the AP Government has suspended senior IPS officer and former AP intelligence chief AB Venkateswar Rao and ordered him to stay put in the capital city itself pending an inquiry. He is the second civil servant, who was known to be extremely pally with the erstwhile TDP regime, to be suspended by the YSRCP government.

AB Venkateswara Rao was accused by the YSRCP of helping the TDP in many ways during the 2019 assembly elections. The party accused him that he had worked in a highly partisan way as the intel chief and had helped the TDP in finalising the candidates. He was also accused of using his influence in distributing party funds during the electioneering to the TDP candidates. In view of the repeated complaints, the Election Commission then had shifted him out of his position. After YS Jagan took over, he did not give Rao any posting.

AP Chief secretary Neelam Sahni has issued a GO (GO MS No 18) late in on Saturday night and directed him to remain stationed in the headquarters as per the clause no 3 (1) of the All India Service Rules 1969. The CS said he has been suspended in view of the serious allegations in the purchase of the security equipments for the state while he was the additional DG. He is the second civil servant after EDB CEO Jasthi Krishna Kishore to have been suspended by the current regime.
