Death Toll Rises To 99 in Guatemala Volcano Eruption

Guatemala witnessed a huge calamity as lava erupted from Volcan de Fuego and it has devasted the lives of a small village named San Miguel Los Lotes. The volcano erupted thick plumes of ash km into the sky and it has rained into the nearby towns. A thick layer of ash and volcanic rock covered the village and only the roofs some homes are visible now.

The disaster and forensic agency INACIF revealed on the Wednesday afternoon that the death toll has been raised to 99. There are estimates that nearly 200 people might have died in nature's fury. Rescue and relief operations are taken up by the government. The soldiers are searching for the remains in the El Rodeo. Red Cross released 250,000 franks ($253,446) aid to immediate emergency aid and rescue operations. The volunteers are busy distributing clean drinking water and food to the victims.

Guatemala's National Disaster Management agency CONRAD revealed that 1.7 million people were affected by the volcanic eruption and 12,000 people have been evacuated till now. We can see the before-after pictures of the volcanic eruption affected region here.
