The Tablighi Jamaat congregation which has created a sensation in India in terms of the positive cases of the COVID-19 has raised many concerns in Pakistan too as a group that attended the congregation tested positive for the deadly virus.

As many as 250,000 people gathered in Pakistan's Punjab, mid-March to participate in the annual five-day event or Tablighi ijtima. This is where people, mainly subscribing to the Deobandi sect get together to pray and obtain further training in proselytizing.

Some 550 Jamaat members, including nationals of Indonesia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, and China, have been quarantined in Sindh after a Chinese citizen tested positive after attending the meeting in Raiwind, according to media reports.

A medical team sent by China to Pakistan has been sitting idle because of a lack of interpreters, according to media reports. The team of eight medical experts arrived in Islamabad last week and visited several health centers and quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients.
