Hyderabadi Behind Salmans Conviction
X
Salman Khan was sentenced to five years imprisonment for hunting two blackbucks while shooting for 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' near Jodhpur in 1998.

The evidence provided by DNA Fingerprinting Expert GV Rao, who is from Hyderabad, on the samples of blackbuck sent to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) lab in the city has become crucial in the case. He was the Chief Staff Scientist of CDFD's DNA Fingerprinting Lab when he appeared in the court in December 2015 regarding Salman's blackbuck poaching case. Specially developed markers have been used during the tests to identify the samples as the species of blackbuck.

Post the judgement in the 20 years long case, GV Rao said: 'That incident took place in October 1998. Bones and Skin of the blackbucks were sent to the lab. As the DNA identification was in a nascent stage then, We used newly developed markers and methodology to establish the samples belong to blackbuck, so that the case would be strong'.
