At least 102 Tea Plantation Workers died after consuming Toxic Illicit Liquor in Assam. Over 350 others are still undergoing treatment in the hospital. Doctors from nearby districts have been rushed to handle the hundreds of patients.
Assam Government ordered for investigation into country liquor deaths in Golaghat District (59) and Jorhat District (43). Seven People have been arrested so far in connection with the deaths. Around 15,000 litre of illicit liquor was destroyed in Assam following the deaths.
Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia was announced by the Assam Government for the families of the deceased Tea Plantation Workers. About Rs 50,000 was sponsored for those who got affected with the illicit liquor.
Death Toll is expected to grow by a big margin. The number kept increasing with casualties reported from different parts of the state.
Cops suspect illicit liquor was procured from the house of 65-Year-Old Woman Draupadi Oran and her Son Sanju Oran at Salmara Tea Garden in Golaghat. Both the Mother and Son had died.
