Over 1.4 million Indians were to return to India from US last year if the Visa period granted to them is taken into consideration. However, More than 30,000 Indians had overstayed in the US in 2016. Whereas, Over 6,000 out of them left US after expiry of the visas. Most of the Indians who overstayed in America are Students who have gone there for higher studies.

As per the report of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Over 50 Million Non-Immigrants were supposed to leave US last year. However, 7.39 Lakh of them overstayed in America. While 6.28 lakh of them haven't left US even after completion of the legal period, Around 1.1 lakh individuals left US after the expiry of their visa period.

Trump Administration is mulling to take stringent action against those Foreign Nationals who stay in the US even after the expiry of the visa period.
