Budget 2017 printing kickstarted with Halwa

Union Finance Ministry kickstarted the process of printing budgetary documents with the traditional 'Halwa Ceremony' at the North Block Yesterday. Arun Jaitley took part in the Halwa preparation.
Around 100 Officials of Finance Ministry who were involved in Budget preparation will remain in the Budget Printing Press in North Block until Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presents budget 2017-18 in Parliament. They won't allowed to contact even family members during this period. Even Journalists will be denied permission to meet any of the officials until the end of Budget speech. This practice is being followed to maintain utmost secrecy about the details of the budget.
Generally, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) prepares the annual budget. This department is headed by Joint Secretary (Budget) of Finance Ministry.
