What will be the MRP of a Water Bottle? Rs 15 to Rs 25 depending upon the brand. But, The price of each water bottle in a Hyderabad Hotel is being fixed Rs 100 excluding GST.
Legal Metrology Department led by IPS Officer CV Anand conducted a special drive in Malls, Restaurants and Star Hotels. During the raid on Lemon Tree Hotel, Officials found out that a water bottle costing Rs 18 is being sold for Rs 135 (Rs 100 as cost of the bottle, Rs 29 in the form of GST, Rs 6 service tax). Even the Prices & Taxes collected on Food Items is beyond anyone's imagination.
As a result, Legal Metrology Officials seized few items in the hotel as evidence for violation of norms. A Memo was given to the Lemon Tree Hotel Management.
Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has made a good move by asking CV Anand to handle matters of Legal Metrology Department to work on the loopholes in the system.
