Congress does not have money

Congress is now realizing what it means to be out of power. Itâs financial sources have dried up and the donors are not coming forward to help the party. So, the leadership is now cash strapped. They are finding it very difficult to hold even public rallies.
So worried is the Congress Party that it has asked its leaders to travel by train if the distances are short. In a circular issued to the party national level leaders, the Congress suggested they take trains for overnight travel instead of planes. Similarly, it has asked the party leaders not to use huge convoys while traveling on organizational work. Most importantly, it has asked the party national general secretaries, who are also MPs, to use the travel conveniences provided to them as MPs and not to claim conveyances from the party. This will reduce the burden on the partyâs exchequer, the party sources said.
The Congress is now in power in only two states â Punjab and Mizoram. Mizoram is too small a state to support the party. This leaves the party with only Punjab to tap from. Karnataka too has lot of money bags, but recently IT raids on Congress money bags have upset the partyâs apple cart.
