BJP Delhi MLA Om Prakash Sharma shared two posters featuring the photos of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman as part of poll campaigning. These posters also carry pictures of PM Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and Om Prakash Sharma. It gave an impression that the Saffron Party is trying to gain political mileage from tension prevailed following Air Strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammad Camp in Balankot.
Subsequently, The Election Commission ordered Facebook to remove all the political posters featuring the photograph of the IAF Pilot from its platform. Political Parties were instructed to refrain from using the photographs of defence personnel in their poll campaigning. This move gave an indication that any such attempts won't be tolerated after the model code of conduct comes into effect.
EC has been using eVIGIL App to take action on the malpractices during election campaigning. Citizens can bring the photos and video clips up to 2 minutes long pertaining to the violation of Model Code Of Conduct to the notice of Election Commission through this App.
