Election Commission Of India (EC) filed a police complaint over 'fake news' saying Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have been allowed to cast their vote online in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. Spreading of such fabricated news with logo of the Election Commission misleads public and leads to confusion.

In its letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for New Delhi, Election Commission termed it as a deliberate attempt to cause mischief and mislead people. Stringent action was sought on those who are responsible for it by conduction in-depth investigation.

Election Commission has already directed Social Networking Sites such as Twitter and WhatsApp to remove any such fake news on their platforms as early as possible.

By the end of February or March 1st week, Election Commission will be issuing notification for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls. Election Process is going to be completed by May 2019 end.
