A Bill proposing merit-based Immigration System and increase in Green Cards by 45 percent annually has been tabled in the US House of Representatives. Trump Administration is backing this legislation 'Securing America's Future Act'. If this Bill is passed, This would end the existing Visa programme and the immigration levels will be reduced from existing 1.05 million per year to 2.60 lakh a year.

The Bill recommends increase of Green Cards by 45 percent annually. Which means, A sharp hike of 1.2 lakh to 1.75 lakh per year.

Indian Techies who land in US by obtaining H-1B visas and opt for green cards/permanent residence status will be the major beneficiary if this gets approval.

On the flip side, Elimination of chain migration is gonna bring a gap between Indian-American Techies and their Families. The Act allows Green Card for H-1B Visa holders spouses and minor children, but not relatives. Renewable Temporary Visa can be sought if the Indian-American Techies wish to unite with their Parents.
