GSLV MK III which is dubbed as India's First Manned Mission is likely to be launched on June 5th this year. Only three nations (US, Russia & China) have been able to accomplish Manned Missions so far.

ISRO Chairman Kiran Kumar says GSLV MK III is being called 'Fat Boy' as it's India's Heaviest Rocket weighing 640 tonnes, which equals the weight of 200 Adult Elephants. He, however, informed Centre is yet to give its consent for Manned Mission.

Equipped with advanced indigenous cryogenic engine which uses liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen as propellants, GSLV MK III is capable of placing 2.2 tonne satellite into Geostationary Orbit, 4 tonne satellite into Geo Orbit and 8 tonne satellite into low-earth orbit. ISRO Scientists worked for more than 15 years to master the technology of cryogenic engine. GSLV MK III can take humans to the space from Indian Soil. An achievement which could make other Nations go green with envy.
