Is Mahabubnagar Amit Shahs Next Target?

Is Amit Shah going to give special focus to Mahabubnagar district? Will he become the "active" member of the party in Mahabubnagar district? And why is he trying to boost the membership drive in this south Telangana district?

The BJP chief is all set to visit Mahabubnagar in the second week of August and could actually give a push to the party's membership drive. Sources within the BJP says that the party regards Mahabubnagar and Jadcharla districts as low-hanging fruits where the party can reap lot of benefits. The conditions in these two districts are very favourable to the BJP, the party feels. With four MP seats already in its kitty, the BJP feels Mahabubnagar could the next big seat that it can set its eyes on.

If history is any indication, the BJP had done fairly well in the district. Ravula Ravindranath Reddy won Alampur seat in 1985, 1989 and 1999. In 1999, AP Jithender Reddy won as Mahabubnagar MP. Similarly, Yennam Srinivas Reddy won as Mahabubnagar MLA in 2011 bypolls. Besides these, the party is quite powerful in Makthal and Narayanpet constituencies. With DK Aruna's arrival, the party has gained strength in Gadwal and Alampur too. So, the party leadership feels that Amit Shah's tour will give a further push to the organisation. Party sources say that the membership targets set for various districts - 50000 members for Mahabubnagar, 40000 each for Nagarkurnool and Jogulamba Gadwal, 30000 for Narayanpet and 20000 for Wanaparthy - have almost been reached. In several constituencies, the membership could cross the fixed targets. Amit Shah's arrival will only give a bigger push for the party, the party sources feel.
