Jairam Ramesh admits Congress is facing existential crisis, a situation much worse than what it is post Emergency (1977) & the phase between (1996-2004). 'The Sultangate has ended, but still we behave like Sultans. We need to change the way we think, act, project and communicate. Old Slogans, Old Formulas, Old Mantras won't work anymore. India has changed, Congress party has to change to be relevant. Yes, It's a very serious crisis,' he told.

The Congress MP predicted Rahul Gandhi might get elevated as Party President by the end of 2017. He, however, is unsure whether it's gonna happen or not due to lack of any clear indication from either Sonia or Rahul.

Asked if there is anyone in Congress to challenge Modi, Mr.Ramesh replied, 'A collective effort is required to overpower NaMo not a single individual. Modi and Amit Shah think differently and act differently. Without being flexible in our approach, Better results can't be attained'.

Jairam Ramesh claims to be disappointed with Nitish Kumar joining NDA against the mandate given by people of Bihar. He sees this development as a huge setback to anti-BJP Coalition.
