Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is firmly opposing the imposition of GST on projects of public importance. He kept appealing Centre to offer tax exemptions for roads, flyovers, drinking water and irrigation projects. However, The concerns expressed by him have fallen on deaf ears.

Ahead of the next GST Council meeting on September 9th, KCR begun efforts to garner the support of other States in the fight against GST. Telangana CMO will be holding consultations with Finance Ministers of other states at Pragathi Bhavan very soon. KCR threatens to move Supreme Court if Centre doesn't offer tax exemption or lower the tax to five percent on projects of public importance.

Initially, GST Council placed work contracts in 18 percent tax slab. After receiving complaints from Telangana and other states, It's been moved to 12 percent tax slab. KCR isn't okay with the slight reduction as 12 percent tax will put additional burden of Rs 12,000 crore on the state. Telangana Government entered into agreements with contractors for contracts worth Rs 2 lakh crore couple of years ago. After GST Rollout, Contractors are pressurizing State Government to bear the additional burden.
