Telangana Government on Sunday increased the reservation quota for backward sections in Muslims from existing 4 percent to 12 percent. This was a promise made by TRS Government in the election manifesto released prior 2014 Elections.

KCR-led TRS Govt has even hiked the Reservation for Scheduled Tribes from 6 percent to 10 percent. After the latest move, Reservations in Telangana state got increased to 62 percent from 50 percent.

TRS Supremo defended reservation hike by saying it's been done on the basis of socio-economic backwardness but not based on religion or caste. 'Muslims ratio in the state increased after bifurcation. Even STs received just 6 percent quota though their population is up to 9.8 percent as per 2011 census,' he told.

Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu warned that hike reservation quota for Muslims might make India a 'Mini-Pakistan'.
