Members of Parliament demand a 100 percent pay hike for themselves on grounds that they deserve a raise in the pay due to good conduct.

An MP was paid a salary of Rs 50,000 per month. About Rs 2,000 per day is paid as daily allowance after signing the register during Parliament Sessions & House Committee Meetings. Whereas, Constituency Allowance is about Rs 45,000 per month (Rs 30,000 for Personal Staff, Rs 15,000 for Stationery). Other benefits would be - 'Free' Government Accommodation, Train/Air Travel, Three Landline Connections & Two Mobile Phones. Rs 4 lakh loan would be provided to purchase a vehicle for their road travels.

Parliamentary Committee recommended 100 percent raise in salaries and monthly allowances of MPs. If the Bill gets passed in next session, MP will pocket Rs 1 lakh & Rs 90,000 as salary & constituency allowances respectively. This puts an additional burden of Rs 250 crore per year on the budget.
