International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) took up the mission of building the first ever Golden Temple in Andhra Pradesh after a 13th Century Idol of Venna Mudda Gopaludu which is believed to have belong to Sri Krishnadevaraya's Period was detected during excavations in the year 1998.

Reportedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to attend the Bhoomi Puja ceremony of Golden Temple which is being constructed near Kondaveedu Fort in Guntur along with AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The foundation stone ceremony will be held on October 22nd this year, on the eve of auspicious Dussehra.

ISKCON allotted a budget of Rs 200 crore for the construction of Golden Temple spreading across 80 acres in a land offered by AP Government. The aim is to built a temple which could match Golden Temples in Amritsar & Sripuram. While the Temple's Dome & Sanatorium will have pure Gold coating, Plans were on the track to establish vedic & international schools, museum, religious theme park, medical centre & goshala in the temple premises.
