The central government has informed the Supreme Court that by January 15, a new code will be designed to curb undesirable issues such as objectionable posts on social media. The issue of linking social media accounts with Aadhaar has been debated. Petitions were also filed in Madhya Pradesh, Madras, and Bombay High Courts.
However, social media networking companies have approached the apex court for the transfer of all petitions to a single court. The Union government had made it clear to the government in January that it would issue a code of conduct to regulate social media activity.
