A Bill introduced in Lok Sabha is meant to ensure Big Fat Weddings are a thing of past. Yes, A particular limit will be imposed on the no.of guests and no.dishes in the menu to keep a tab on the show-of-wealth. If the total spendings of family exceeds Rs 5 lakh on a wedding, 10 percent of the amount should be contributed to the marriages of girls from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. If the Bill gets approved, All the marriages should be registered within 60 days of solemnization.

Congress MP Ranjeet Rajan (W/O MP Pappu Yadav) introduced the Marriages (Compulsory Registration and Prevention of Wasteful Expenditure) Bill, 2016. This Bill is likely to be taken up as private member's bill in the upcoming Lok Sabha session.

Ranjeet Rajan claims the main agenda behind the Marriages Bill 2016 is to prohibit lavish and wasteful expenditure on weddings. She believes this Bill will encourage people of the country to opt for low-key weddings with expenditure less than Rs 5 lakhs.

In India, Marriages have become a show-of-wealth. As a result, Several families are getting debt ridden and this isn't good for society at large.
