SC Crucial Comments On Inter-Religion Marriage
X
If a Hindu man marries a woman from other religion what happens to his wife's religious identity? Will her religion continues to be the same or not? Which religion does she belong to after marriage? This religious identity issue has reached the Supreme court bench recently.

A Parsi woman named Goolrokh M Gupta challenged Gujarat High Court verdict that she lost her religious identity after marrying a man outside her religion. As her community elders did not allow her into the tower of silence she initially approached Gujarat High Court. As the verdict was delivered against her, she approached the Supreme Court.

The senior advocate argued that "The inter-religion marriage between a Hindi and a Parsi doesn't result in automatic conversion of the religion of wife. The Special Marriage act allows people to marry without converting". The Supreme Court bench also opined that a woman doesn't lose her religious identity after the marriage. But the final verdict yet to come on the case.
