X
Former Indian PM Lal Bahadur Shastri died in Tashkent within hours after signing a declaration with Pakistan President Muhammad Ayub Khan post 1965 Indo-Pak war. Though it's been reported that he died of a massive heart attack, Several questions related to the sudden demise of Indian PM on foreign soil remained unanswered.

The Central Information Commission (CIC) ordered Prime Minister and Home Ministry to take a call on the declassification of all classified records pertaining to the former PM Lal Bahadur Shahstri's death in erstwhile USSR in the year 1996.

Information Commissioner M Sridhar Acharyulu opined People of the country have the fundamental right to know what happened to their Prime Minister. Orders have been passed to declassify the records through an expert panel or by other methods. 'Even proving that Mr.Shastri died of heart attack could clear many doubts of the people,' he said, while expressing surprise over lack of records with Rajya Sabha pertaining to the Raj Narain Committee constituted to probe Shastri's death.

People grew suspicious because Lal Bahadur Shastri's Personal Doctor and Assistance were killed in separate incidents after his death. Even the records of Probe Panel and valid points raised by Shastri's Family/Journalists disappeared. CIC feels Centre have the responsibility to explain the nation how Shastri died. PM Modi is going to take a final call on the declassification of secret papers.
